Random Artbits

by The Artist on June 26, 2012

We tried to scan the smashbits.

Really, we did.  We sat a monster at the scanner and fed him some sugar, and came back later to find him comatose and all his hair pulled out in tufts.  Apparently, the smashbooks and the (9″ x 12″) Soul Restoration journals just don’t fit on the scanner glass, despite all the Scanner Yoga our little scan monster tried to do.

So the Artist had an idea.

We’d just record a flip-through with the videocamera.  No scanner required.  (And the scanmonster began to superglue his hair back on his nekkid, bald body.)

Problem is:  none of us really know how to edit video.  After crashing things a few times, and having the Artist contemplate taking actual photos instead, we’ve still got three video files and a fair case of Procrastination.

The journals are worth sharing, though.

Once we figure out why things are backwards and upside down, we’re going to share (and talk about the awesomeness that IS the SR II class).  We just have to figure out how to do that without making any more monsters go bald.

In the meantime, here’s a few bits that did fit on the scanner:

Another prompt/technique from Natalie’s “In the Sun” class.  She taught gel medium transfers!

A prompt/exercise from Carla Sonheim, where you find cracks in the sidewalk and draw them as things, like finding shapes in clouds….but below your feet.

MOST of a smashbook page with stuff stuck in at random.  It’s not done (as most of the smash pages aren’t), but shows a little of the kind of thing you can shove into a book when you’re playing.

More, coming soon.

As soon as we get some more superglue for the scanmonster.

I love the crack drawings! Such fun they are (the bird is my favorite). I love when you show pages – I always get so inspired.

I’m definitely looking forward to your talk about SRII – I’ve been waffling and waffling (it’s so much money, blah blah) but i have on my pre-big birthday bucket list that taking a class and investing in myself is an important thing, and I keep leaning towards the Brave Girls.
